Seven days. Real conversations. And perhaps a few rooms you didn't know were there.
You talk to people every day.
Colleagues.
Friends.
Neighbours.
Family.
The person you always see at the coffee machine.
The person whose weekend you ask about every Monday.
And yet...
how often do you discover something genuinely new about them?
We have hundreds of conversations.
But many of them follow remarkably familiar little roads.
βHow are you?β
βFine.β
βHow was your weekend?β
βGood.β
βBusy?β
βVery.β
Excellent work, humanity. π
But every now and then, something different happens.
Someone says something.
A detail.
A thought.
A tiny piece of information you weren't expecting.
And for a second...
a door opens. πͺ
The question is:
do we notice it?
Welcome to Open a Door.
For seven days, we're going to investigate what happens when we bring a little more curiosity, attention and intention into the conversations we're already having.
Not more conversations.
Better moments inside them.
π¬ Perhaps the conversation isn't finished yet
Imagine this:
You ask someone how their weekend was.
They say:
βGood. I finally started painting again.β
There are dozens of possible responses.
βNice!β
βGreat!β
βAnyway, about Monday's meeting...β
π
Or...
there might be somewhere else to go.
Not because we're trying to extract information.
Not because every conversation needs to become profound.
And definitely not because we're going to wander around interrogating innocent colleagues.
But because sometimes another human gives us a tiny glimpse of something...
and we simply don't notice the invitation.
What might happen if we did?
That's our experiment.

Seven days. Real conversations. And perhaps a few rooms you didn't know were there.
π¬ The science
Science has been listening to conversations
And apparently...
it's been noticing things. π
Researchers have studied real conversations between real people.
They've looked at questions.
Responses.
Attention.
Curiosity.
What people reveal about themselves.
What makes someone feel understood.
And even why certain conversations leave us feeling unexpectedly closer to another person.
Some of the findings are surprisingly practical.
Others challenge what we think makes someone a βgood conversationalistβ.
Because perhaps connection isn't always about being interesting.
Perhaps something else matters more.
Much more.
And there's one beautifully simple conversational behaviour researchers have studied that you'll probably recognise immediately once you see it.
We're not telling you what it is here. π
You'll meet the science during the Experience...
and then you'll take it out of the research paper and into your own life.
Because this isn't a course in conversation theory.
We're going to test what happens between humans.
We'll bring the research.
You'll bring the humans.
Let's see what happens.
π The doors are already everywhere
You won't need to meet seven fascinating strangers.
You don't need networking events.
You don't need dinner parties filled with Nobel Prize winners. π
Your laboratory is already populated.
The colleague you see every day.
Your partner.
A friend.
Your neighbour.
Someone you haven't spoken to properly for a while.
Perhaps even someone you've known for years.
Because one of the most interesting questions behind this Experience is:
Can we become curious again about people we think we already know?
During seven days, we'll play with small changes inside ordinary conversations.
Some will involve curiosity.
Some attention.
Some may involve what happens after someone has said something.
And occasionally you may discover that the conversation you thought you were having...
wasn't the only conversation available.
πͺ
π± Not every door needs opening
This matters.
Connection isn't about forcing intimacy.
We're not going hunting for people's secrets. π
Nobody owes us a personal story.
And a conversation doesn't become βbetterβ simply because it becomes more private.
Sometimes a door is closed.
Sometimes someone doesn't want to go further.
Sometimes we don't.
That's perfectly fine.
Part of connection is learning to notice that too.
Open a Door isn't about pushing.
It's about becoming more sensitive to those small moments when another person seems to say:
βYou could stay here for another minute.β
And discovering what happens when we do.
βοΈ There may be some doors involved...
We should probably mention this.
At some point during the Experience...
you may need:
a piece of paper,
something to draw with,
and possibly scissors.
π
Why?
Excellent question.
We're not answering it. π
Let's simply say that by the end of seven days...
something that began completely flat may look rather different.
Magic Bean has already started cutting things.
Supervision may be required. πβοΈπͺ

πΌ And yes... this can follow you to work
Because conversations aren't only personal.
They happen in meetings.
With colleagues.
With clients.
Inside teams.
During networking.
At the coffee machine.
And sometimes the difference between simply exchanging information and genuinely understanding another person can begin with something remarkably small.
You don't need to become more charismatic.
You don't need better anecdotes.
You don't need to dominate the room.
Perhaps...
you just need to become a little more curious about who's already in it.
πͺ Seven days later...
You may not have seven new friends.
Good. That isn't the goal. π
But perhaps you'll know something about someone that you didn't know seven days ago.
Perhaps one conversation will have gone somewhere unexpected.
Perhaps somebody will have told you something simply because...
you stayed.
You listened.
You noticed.
Perhaps you'll discover that someone you've known for years still contains unexplored territory.
And perhaps you'll start noticing those tiny conversational moments that used to disappear before you realised they were there.
Because people leave doors ajar all the time.
We just don't always see them.
